FROM PIECES TO WEIGHT (90 - 156 )

SUMMARY:
Durring these chapters mr.jackson is placed into a rock and a hardplace as he tries to decide either to quit selling drugs to begin his rap career , or continue . In the beggining he was in jail and in a program that was suspose to make him a better person . Each time he fulfilled an activity of the program or simply particepated he had to report back to his probational officer . If what he reported back to her was believable then that would give him less time since he was so young . He had a problem though , she didnt belive that anything he said was forreal and that everything that he said was only so he could get by and get out , which to him was obvious but also made his extremely angry . He eventually gets out , and when he gets older becomes addicted to gambeling . With that , he keeps winning alot of money , so he decides to begin his rap career and develope his own studio . When he was in jail though he made some friends and some enemies . So he wanted his new friends to join him , and the enemies that he had wanted to kill him . So as he begins to become a famous producer in New York and becomes noticed by many famous people , his enemies start to look for him to kill him . That has him wondering if he should just simply quite selling drugs and make his money in a more legal way , or if he should do the opposite .

QUOTE:
" you got to get rich , or die tryin' "( jackson 155 )

REACTION:
When i read this quote after reading the narrative part before it , i paussed in my reading and began to think . He only wanted to become rich because thats what his mother stried to be before she died . She wanted to become rich but was doing it the negative way . So he just followed in her steps , but found another way to make sure that he would get rich . He says that he will die trying because she also did , but people also wanted to kill him . So his mom tried to get rich but died trying , but he wanted to try to get rich without dying .

FROM PIECES TO WEIGHT ( 72 - 90 )

SUMMARY:
Durring these few pages alot happens whhich is a part of the climax of the entire story . As 50 cent turns sixteen and is continuing to sell drugs and go to school he is also faced with both relationship problems and society issues . He ends up finding his first "girlfriend" and her name is Tracee . They never got to develope a real relationship because all he was really looking for was sex , like most young 16 year olds . As he goes to visit her one night in his nicest clotes , jewlery , and eight ball jacket , he notices that the area isnt safe because of all the guys watching him so he wanted to just do what he came to do and them leave immediately . When he was done and got back downstairs one of the eight guys ansked him so " come here and talk for a sec " , but when he said that they had nothing to talk about and walked outside , they took that as a sign of disrespect and proceeded to follow him . When he got outside and noticed that he was still being followed he got scared and just turned around shooting and jumped into a taxi . After that night he told himself that he would never go to visit her again because his life was more important than some girl that he barely liked . Then thats when he met Tasha who he considered his first real "girlfriend" . That relationship just consisted of money and sex . He never really paid her any mind unless he wanted some and she never really stressed that unless she wanted him to buy her something . One day she wasnted to go on a double date with her best friend and her boyfriend , who he knew very well , but he decided not to go [ which he told his friend brian on the phone on speaker , but didnt know ] because he would rather make money than fall in love . When Tasha heard that she ended up cheating on him and going to the movies with a guy named john who she messed with periodically for a few months after that . Since 50 cent never found out until a few months later he ended up buying her a 500 dollar fur coat and not thinking anything of it , until john told him the entire story out of jelousy . After that he just took everything that he could back because he would rather be single then be cheated on , and decided not to date for a while after that again . Then one day while he was going to school , he was being searched as normal , but this time the school police found drugs in his shoe which caught him by total surprise .He was arrested but then expelled and had to go to court . So when he got home alot of feelings and serious words were shared between he and his grandmother . At first she thought that he was using the drugs , but after he told her that he was the one selling them , she broke down into tears . She began to cry band told him the real story about his mothers death . She told him that his mother was also a drug dealer and that she was murdered , so his grandmother felt like it was all her fault because she wasnt able to provide her kids with things they wanted which lead her children to finding other ways to do so .

QUOTE:
" i always took a liking to social studies , though , maily world history -- war and sh*t like that . War had interested me from the earliest day , since i use to play with those green army men . I really got excited about the strategy and the fights between good and evil , like , We're right and they're wrong , so we have to get rid of them . How could you make that boring ? A lot of teachers did , however . They turned war into a game of numbers , dates , and who signed what piece of paper . I was like , What happened to the part about getting rid of the other guy for the good of the world? School just made everything corny " ( jackson 86 )

REACTION:
As i read this quote i laughed because i felt the same way about that subject and school. As i was reading before that he also explained that he was good at chemistry and conversions because of selling drugs and him having to divide and multiply the substaces himself . So are all things really bad for you ? because if you can learn a helpful or valuable lesson from something looked at as a crime , then is it really a crime , or just something misunderstood ? This in some way connects to what he has already seen or been through because of the " wars " . He has seen alot of dealers killed and been in many fights , and later on in his life would experience many more things like war with the law because of what he does durring the majority of his spare time .

FROM PIECES TO WEIGHT ( 45 - 71 )

SUMARRY:
In this chapter 50 cent is introduced to cocaine . his older cousin Sincere is heavily into the game and they become very close . He begins to notice that his cousin is always getting togeather with a guy named Carlos who was always to himself but knew alot . He was the type of guy who wore tailored silk and linen outfits in the summer , and expensive knit sweaters and buttery leather trench coats in the winter , so 50 cent knew there was something going on . Since they always met in front of his grandmothers house where he lived , he always heard the conversations and seen the things they did with the people who came by . He found it very wierd that they would always talk about soccer and be so interested in the subject , until he asked his cousin and was given all of the information bit by bit .

QUOTE:
" but he doesnt realize that somethimes you win and sometimes you lose. And when you lose , you shouldnt take everyone down with you shouldnt take everyone down with you. Its just not the way men work " (jackson 45 )

REACTION:
This is important to the book because this is when 50 cent begins to realize that not only is it better to stand alone , but in doing so you could benefit alone or lose alone . He also saw how this was true because he watched as his cousin and his friend related futbol ( soccer ) to drugs. In the beggining they were on a winning streek and had many fans and people who returned , but as seasons changed , so did the game . Thats when the game got tough and players got even tougher . I can relate to the sports part of this because theyre the same . When its basketball season everyone shows up to practice and trys their hardest to win every game , but when the season is over everyone becomes to buisy for practice and the fans stop coming to the small games .

FROM PIECES TO WEIGHT ( 1-40 )

SUMMARY:
In the exposition of From Pieces To Weight Curtis Jackson III talks about his growing up in Southside Jamaica Queens , New York . hHe lived with his grandmother and grandfather in a large house with his many aunts and uncles . Since he was the youngest in the house he was always picked on and all of his aunts and uncles felt as though he wasnt their responsibility . His mother , on the other hand , didnt live with them , but did anything that she could to make sure that her son had everything that he not only wanted , but also needed . He was also very diciplined though . In one part of the story , he talks about how he was beat up by a larger boy his age over a game of marbles . So his mother sent him back out to beat the boy up in anyway that he could . If he refused or lost then his mother planned to raise hell , which was how she was if she didnt get her way . He also reveales that his mother was murdered by a man that she sold drugs with . He was trying to find out as much information as he could but could only do so much at such a young age . He always did what he was told so that he wouldnt have to hear the end of a bad argument , but the lesson of a good one .

QUOTE:
"you cant play the game for today; you gotta play for tomarrow , even if tomarrow never comes . For every dollar you spend , you gotta save four . Thats the only way you're gonna make money . I see you little guys: As soon as you get a penny , your spending a nickle. Save you're money and do somethin' with it" ( curtis 36 ) .

REACTION:
This cuote above is important to the story because this was an epiphany that he had while speaking to a friend about hustling . Since his mother was a hustler , but died because she made a small mistake , he wanted to be sure that he followed in her footsteps but did everything perfectly . So he was trying to explain to a young ed at the same age that he did that things are not all theyre crack up to be , so he wanted him to do things by the book . I can easily relate to this part of the story because of how he was as a child growing up . Since he was always taught to repect his elders and mind his business , he figured the best way to stay out of trouble was to keep to himself and only associate with others when nessassary . So whenever he was home he wasnt interacting with his family , but simply in his room writing peoms and raps , or playing with his green toy army men . This shows that he was mature at a young age by choice which kept him out of trouble but in a good eye . I can relate to this because when im home i too isolate myself in my room to keep out of all the maddness that occurs in my neighborhood or any troubles i could get into at home . I simply sit in my room and write poems or songs and sing and dance , which sharpens my skills and shows maturity .
